The food has been one of the biggest adjustments for Alona & Eliza during their stay.
We are going through yogurt like water. That seems to be their "go-to" food of choice.
We've taken them to the store to pick out foods,
but even so there hasn't been a big interest in American food.
Tonight, however, Alona offered to make us a Ukrainian meal of Perogi's.
She is very natural in the kitchen. And its clear she enjoys it.
Her straggly-haired little friend enjoyed helping and learning.
Sadly, in the end, they did not turn out like she had hoped they would. After boiling them, they all stuck together and she was devastated. They TASTED amazing, but she felt they were ruined and ran to her room in tears.
No coaxing or encouraging would help. She felt like it was a total flop and she refused to come down for dinner. SO...
We all took our plates upstairs to her room and ate there!!! :)
I'm pretty sure she thinks were crazy, but I think she understood our expression of love & acceptance and gratefulness for the meal. I wish I had a picture of us in her room, but there was so much work to be done at talking to Alona that pictures were not the thought at that moment.
Later in the evening, I found a video of Perogi making on YouTube and we watched it together.
Now that I know the whole process and the tools needed, we can do it again and be successful.
She reluctantly agreed to try it again for New Year's Eve!!!
