Creation Museum

We had the wonderful privilege of visiting the Creation Museum on our way down to Florida. All the kids loved it, but Jake especially enjoyed it as he is our resident Creationist! He knows his science, his dinosaurs and his Bible making him a very knowledgeable 8 year old.  In fact, before we left we visited the Longway Planeterium in Flint and he walked right up to the Tour Guide and asked her why she believed in Evolution.  May he always be that brave!

We had just finished a study on the life of Paul so it was neat to see this illustration of him writing some of the books of the New Testament.

 The first sacrifice for atonement of sin. This was a rather disturbing display because it was so life-like and really looking. But, it was very convicting to see. It brings to life what the Old Testament offerings were really like. The kids (and parents!) got a great visual of OT history.

 The result of sin was the thorns and thistles in land and the work that man must now do.

If you have not been to the Creation Museum, (click the words for a link to their website) we would HIGHLY recommend it.  Some people were concerned that our kids were too young because there is a lot of reading involved. We didn't feel that way at all. It is VERY well done and we felt like it brought a lot of great visuals into play for the kids.  They didn't read everything, but they certainly got the overall concept of what was being shared.  We give it 5 stars for parents and kids alike.  They do a beautiful job! And there are outdoor parts that we didn't explore to their fullest due to the very cold and windy weather. We'll catch those on our next trip!

Valentine's Day 2012-Party!

Just because we don't go to traditional school does NOT mean that we can't have a party with our friends!!  We, Posey's, are all about throwing a good party!  So for Valentine's Day we invited some friends to come and share in the fun!

Paigey helped with decorations~her assignment was to count 100 conversations hearts into the vase.  (Once she reached 100, I let her pour in the rest of the bag!)

Paigey also finished up a Post Office Unit this week. She learned all about the mail system-
how it got started, how to write and address a letter, where the mail goes, why we need stamps, how the post office works, etc.  Part of her project was to make her own mail box! (PINK, of course!)

 Our party included decorating Valentine heart cookies~ made by my dear friend Lori, who has moved here from Texas!  The kids and I are going to take cooking lessons from her VERY soon and in the mean time, we just thoroughly enjoy all the yummy treats she spoils us with!!

(Oh, my word, when she discovered they were her VERY own she was beside herself, giddy with excitement.  Daddy's just have a way, don't they!?)

Teeth and a Trip to the Dentist

Over the last two weeks we have been studying "Teeth" in school. We learned all about how they work, what the different parts are and how to take good care of them.  For Connor a great way to learn is to turn it into a cooking project so we decided to make some teeth!

We ended the unit with a trip to the Dentist and took him one of our cupcakes.  And the funny thing was...it just happened to be his  birthday!
